(1) Vicar Alexr. Cooke's handwriting during January. Robert and
Alexander Cooke were brothers, being children of Robert Cooke , of Beeston.
Robert was baptized at the Leeds Parish Church 23rd, July, 1550, and Alexander
was baptized there Sept. 3rd, 1564. (See Thoresby's Vicaria.)
(2) She was daughter of Roger Nowell. (See Duc., p. 187.) Wilson
states that she was widow of Richd. Fleetwood, of Calwick, co. Stafford.
(Wilson's Notes.) Whitaker's Whalley, p. 244, and Foster's,
Lancashire Pedigrees, make the same mistake. But see the Chetham Society's
Priory of Penwortham, pp. lv.-lix. Mary, daughter of Roger Nowell, marr.,
12th Feb., 1602-3, as second wife, Thomas Fleetwood of Penwortha:n, who was
buried at Ellaston 21st January, 1603-4. His sister, Elizabeth Fleetwood,
married there, 7th Nov., 1602, the brother of her sister in-law, Roger Nowell,
of Read, and had six sons, the eldest being Roger Nowell, bapt. 13th March,
1605-6 (will proved 30th May, 1695), who also had six sons.-C. B. N.
