Falkenham
In the time of King Henry I., this lordship was held by Sir Robert de Sackville,
Knt., of the honour of Eye. His descendants were seated at Buckhurst, in Sussex,
and were ancestors of the Dukes of Dorset and Middlesex. This manor, with divers
others in the county, were given in exchange for the castle, manor, and chase of
Rising, in Norfolk, to King Henry VIII., in the 36th year of his reign, by
Thomas Howard, Duke of Norfolk, and his son Henry, Earl of Arundel and Surry.
